While we are excited for all our residents to participate in the caring for the Community Garden at Autumn Lakes, there is something special about teaching children to garden. Gardening is a great way for children to engage their senses and cultivate interest in the cycles of life and the natural world. It facilitates the development of patience and responsibility as they care for and anticipates the harvest of fruits and vegetables. Not only is it great for the learning opportunities, but it also encourages healthy eating and nutrition.
For us adults, the process can also be a good reminder that “Gardens and children need the same things-patience, love, and someone who will never give up on them” (Nicolette Sowder). We want to extend a special thanks to Mr. Steve, who has not only taken charge of the garden project but also greatly enhanced the experience specifically for the children in the community!
